AMP Swim Diaper Review

By April Duffy •  Updated: 06/29/24 •  4 min read

An AMP Swim diaper was actually the first swim diaper I used for my daughter when she was small, and I continued to use them until she was potty trained because they fit great, worked well, looked nice, and also came in a neat and tidy carrying bag that I could tuck into my beach bag.

Below, I’ll detail exactly how it stacked up in the five categories we rate all diapers on here at Cloth Diapers for Beginners — absorbency & effectiveness, adjustabilty & fit, prints & fabrics, support & warranty, and price & availability.

Oddly enough, this diaper got top perfomance marks all around but where it looses points is for a lack of prints and availability, which seems hardly fair, but our reviews are tough, so keep reading!

AMP Swim Diaper

AMP is a longstanding Canadian cloth diaper brand but you may not be familiar them. The AMP swim diaper is one product to have on your radar...

How We Rated the AMP Reusable Swim Diaper

Absorbency & Effectiveness

1/1 ⭐

Swim diapers should not be absorbent as it’s a safety hazard to have your baby wearing an insert made heavy from absorbing water, and potentially weighing them down. This is also why you shouldn’t use regular cloth diapers while swimming.

AMP swim diapers are made of two layers of very soft micro-mesh that don’t absorb any liquid. This fabric allows the diaper to retain solids while not catching or holding onto water from the pool, so they are perform perfectly!

Adjustabilty and Fit

1/1 ⭐

These swim diapers come in two sizes:

Though I always recommend buying a swim diaper to size, AMP swim diapers are very forgiving. I bought a size large, and it fit my daughter from about 4 or 5 months old until potty training because the fabric was so movable and it adjusted so well. I could actually still put it on her well after potty training if I had wanted to (and she did potty train late).

You can’t get better than that.

Prints and Fabrics

0.5/1 ⭐

One area where AMP could improve is their choice. Currently, AMP swim diapers only come in four solid colors: blue, grape, red, and “splashberry” (a vibrant fuschia).

Given the specialty of the material, I completely understand why only four colors are available, but it would still be nice for more options.

As far as the fabric itself, again, AMP swim diapers are not absorbent or waterproof, which is what makes them perfect for the pool.

I also found the fabric to be the softest and most breathable compared to other swim diapers I tested. It’s actually made of a mesh material, which lets the water in and out, but it’s so trim and snug (which it can be because it’s so soft) that nothing is getting out of there. It’s great.

Support & Warranty

1/1 ⭐
Annie Marie Padorie (AMP) diapers is a very longstanding Canadian cloth diaper brand that I’ve personally seen offer great customer service and stand by their products.

According to their gauranty page, they offer the following warranties:

I feel confident in recommending AMP as a brand as I have have had many of their products stand the test of time and have always had good interactions with them.

Price and Availability

0.5/1 ⭐

AMP swim diapers are priced on par with their competition. At the time of publication the list price for them was $16.00 CDN (prices change all the time, so check the link below for current pricing) which is about $12.50 USD.

The last area where I reluctantly do have to doc AMP half a star rating is on availability. Though you can get AMP on their own webstore here (that does ship to the US), and on many Canadian online diaper retailers (check out our cloth diaper directory here), finding them at a US retailer can be challenging.

Alternatives to AMP Swim Diapers

If you have a hard time getting your hands on an AMP swim diaper, or are just looking for some cuter alternatives, there are limited choices out there.

Many swim diapers offered are made from PUL, which can actually cause leaks when submerged. But there are other suitable options I have more info in my post about the three best swim diapers of 2024 here, but here’s a quick look at some alternatives and how they stack up against the AMP swim diaper:
