Wink Diapers Organic All-in-One Review

By April Duffy •  Updated: 03/25/24 •  17 min read

The Least Expensive Natural and Organic All-in-One Available (with our Exclusive Coupon)

All-in-one diapers (AIO’s for short) are great, especially if you’re looking for an organic diaper that’s easy to use at the change table for grandparents, reluctant spouses, and caregivers. The high-absorbency of natural and organic fabrics combined with the ease of AIO’s can make even the most anti-cloth diaper family member admit they aren’t so bad; but one of their big flaws is how pricey they can be.

That’s why when Wink diapers reached out to ask if I could review their organic bamboo diapers AND offered to give me a special discount coupon for 30% off all Wink products to share with the Cloth Diapers for Beginners community, I jumped at the chance to see how they’d perform.

At regular price, the Wink organic bamboo AIO is priced just slightly below other natural-fabric AIO’s, but with our special 30% discount, they are way less expensive than other diapers of their kind. Even better, you can combine that coupon with the bulk discounting available on their website ($2 off each one if you buy 6; and $3 off each one if you buy 12).

Now, that’s exciting!

If these AIO’s were available at this price when I built my first stash of cloth diapers, I would have stocked up! Of course, while this all-in-one (AIO) would have definitely been part of my stash, it wouldn’t have been all of it. While all-in-ones are great additions to any diaper collection, they do serve a few specific needs.

I put this review together to help you figure out if the Wink Organic Bamboo AIO will meet your needs and should be on your must-have list.

Things to Consider Before Buying an All-In-One

I talk at length about the pros and cons of all-in-one diapers here, but in short, an all-in-one diaper is perfect when you need something that is:

Parents sending cloth diapers to daycare or grandma’s house, or parents who are out and about a lot with baby will definitely love the ease of an all-in-one.

One more important thing to keep in mind when considering an AIO is your absorbency needs. Because everything is cut and sewn to size in order to be a one-piece thing, you do lose some of the customizations that other styles of diapers give you.

If your baby is a bit of a heavy-wetter but you’re looking for all the benefits of an AIO, you should pay close attention to the fabrics being used.

I talk a lot about fabrics all over this site, but it wouldn’t hurt to go over the fabric types again here to recall that natural fabrics like cotton, bamboo, and hemp hold more liquid than synthetic fabrics like microfiber (and bamboo-charcoal, which is microfiber and fleece).

Here’s a chart to show the absorbency of the many fabrics, ordered from least absorbent to most absorbent.

Finally, if you’re considering an AIO you want to think about your stash size and your drying routine. All-in-ones take longer to dry, especially if you hang dry your diapers to prolong their lifespan. Because they will spend more time on the clothesline, you will need a few more for baby to wear in between washing while the last batch are drying.

The Wink Diapers Organic All-In-One

The Wink Organic Bamboo all-in-one diaper is the only all-in-one diaper Wink offers. Wink claims their double leg gussets and single back gussets are life-changing, preventing even the worst blow-outs. Their innovative elastic design is also said to allow for more flexibility and movement, giving your baby the best range of motion without creating any leg or back gaps.

Notice the back elastic of the Wink AiO, pictured here.

Their elastic design is definitely something that hit me as special as soon as I took a look at the diaper. As you’ll notice when we compare the Wink to other natural one-size AIO’s below (specifically, Thirsties, GroVia, and bunGenius) none of their competitors offer double gussets, and all of them place the back elastic up at the top, giving less blow-out protection for clothing.

When combined with the seven layers of 100% organic bamboo terry (recall from the chart above that bamboo is one of the most absorbent fabrics out there), the elastic placement on these all-in-ones can definitely cut down on leaks, and they are even good enough for naps or long car rides.

While they are heavy-duty all-in-ones,  remember that they are still all-in-ones and if your baby is older, or a heavy-wetter, they won’t get you through a long night on their own (Wink does have some nice diaper covers that can be used with overnight-level absorbency, you can check out our review of those here) so you’ll want to have at least a few heavy-duty overnight solutions in your stash.

Also, while double gussets mean an easier fit and fewer gaps around the legs (the top spot for fit leaks) making them an absolute dream for skinny and tall babies, we did find them to be snug on legs of chunky-legged babies.

We gave the Wink AIO 4.5 out of 5 stars, which is a VERY high review for our standards.  We’ll get into exactly how we came to that number in the next section, but first, let’s do a quick breakdown of what we liked and what we didn’t:

What we likedWhat we didn’t
-Seven layers of 100% organic bamboo terry gives lots of absorbency
-Double gussets and single gusset back to amp up the leak protection
-Holds up after even a 1.5-hour nap (and easily beyond)
-Great fit. Super slim and hugs baby in the right places
-Double gussets give a snug fit that’s great for skinny-leg babies
-High quality feel to the PUL and elastics
-A nice softness/plushness to the bamboo inside
-Solid customer service (15 minutes response time in the evening)
-Good warranty
-Great price with the discounts applied
-Double flaps to cut down dry time
-As expected, it’s too trim and slim to last overnight
-Bit snug for chunky thighs because of the double gusset
-Not many prints available (only 8 at the time of writing) for print lovers
-A bit pricey if paying full price (but on par with most all-in-one’s)
-Double flaps may be scary for some at the changing table

How We Rated It

To be fair to all cloth diapers, we rate each one according to five key features to come up with a rating out of five stars. Here’s how we rated the Wink All-in-One:

  1. Absorbency and Effectiveness: 1 star
  2. Adjustability and Fit: 0.5 stars
  3. Prints and Fabrics: 1 star
  4. Support and Warranty: 1 star
  5. Price and Availability: 1 star

Total: 4.5 out of 5 stars!

Absorbency and Effectiveness

The Wink Bamboo AIO in Plane Jane being put to the test.

When we put Wink’s AIO to the test on an 8-month-old it held up well both during the day and even for a nap. Even after a 1.5-hour nap it held up well and wasn’t full.

As expected it didn’t last for a full night, 10-hour sleep, but that is to be expected for an all-in-one, even a bamboo one.

For absorbency and effectiveness, the Wink met all reasonable expectations so we gave it a full star for this category.

Adjustability and Fit

The baby we tried this on was around 8 mos old and about 23 lbs at the time, and had thighs that were more on the chunky side. The diaper had to be readjusted a few times to fit properly at first even by an experienced cloth diaper mama, but by the third time it went on well.
The fit was great, nice and slim, hugging the baby in the right places, but it didn’t feel like there was much room to grow for chunky thighs. This led us to believe it would be best for a baby with slimmer legs. While baby’s tend to stretch out after walking, a seriously chunky baby who walks late may find this diaper hard to fit for a time before they begin to slim and stretch out.

Since the diaper may be less-than-perfect for chunky babies, we did dock this category half a star, but that may have been unfair because it could be a blessing for those with skinny-legged little ones who are desperately trying to eliminate that leg gap. We are tough here, keep that in mind.

Prints and Fabrics

The plush inside of the Wink All-in-One.

The feel of the PUL outside and the bamboo inside of the Wink AIO is as good as you can ask for. The outer waterproof layer has a nice thickness to it and the absorbent inside feels soft and plushy. They clearly use quality fabrics that feel both sturdy and soft.

One area where the Wink AIO is clearly lacking though is in the prints department; though this is a problem with most AIO’s, likely due to their higher production costs. With just a handful of prints to choose from, Wink has a long way to go to feed into our print addiction, but since this is common for natural AIO’s we didn’t take anything off its score and gave it a full star in this category.

Support and Warranty

Here’s the Wink Warranty front their website:

“Products that are deemed damaged due to defects in manufacturing and/or workmanship are eligible for a 12 month warranty. Please contact us if any of your items become damaged. Warranty claims will be handled on a case-by-case basis. We reserve the right to refuse any warranty claim on the basis of customer mishandling or misuse including, but not limited to: lack of following the recommended washing instructions outlined on our FAQ page, Using a non-recommended detergent, using a non-recommended diaper ointment or cream, improper storage, exposure to chemicals or harsh conditions, etc. Please retain your email order confirmation for your records. This email along with your order number is required to process a warranty claim. Approved warranty claims will be eligible for a replacement item of equal value only. No refunds will be issued. You may be responsible for any applicable shipping charges that result from replacing your product. A photo of the item may be required before the exchange is agreed upon.”

This is on par with other warranties you’ll see on diapers on the market and so we felt confident that if there was an issue with the diaper, they would help.

We also reached out via their customer service chat (available through their website) with basic questions and received a response within 15 minutes during the evening.

Considering all that and how pleasant the owner has been while setting up this review and special coupon (remember Beginners30 for 30% off any purchase) meant Wink definitely earned it’s full star in this category.

Price and Availability

As you’ll read in the rest of the review, for an organic AIO Wink offers the best bang for your buck BY FAR! But they only come out so far ahead when factoring in the amazing coupon they shared with us at Cloth Diapers for Beginners, the Beginners30 coupon that gets you 30% off anything you buy at Wink.com (and don’t forget the price gets better when bulk shopping).

But if you wanted to support your local cloth diaper shop, you’d be hard-pressed to find one that carries Wink diapers and you definitely wouldn’t get that amazing discount. Good or bad, this is different than the other natural AIO’s like Thirsties, GroVia and bumGenius, which have a much wider availability.

The Wink website does do an amazing job at offering their diapers to countries all around the world however, not just North America, so that’s something to consider if shopping abroad.

In the end, the fact that you can get them all over the world and for an amazing price meant we gave Wink their full star in this category as well.

What Others are Saying about Wink AIO’s

As always, AFTER we’ve reviewed a diaper, we scour the internet for some other reviews to share with you so you can see what other’s are saying about it. Unfortunately, we we’re only able to find one other review of the AIO (there are a few more reviews of the cover and inserts, which we link to in our review of their cover here. Here’s an interesting excerpt from the one review we’ve found:

“Somewhere in the 50th to 60th percentile for weight and height, Camille is one year old and 20 pounds right now…. She still has two snap settings to go. Her legs are chubby so I have to be careful about the gussets being too tight in that area, or they leave uncomfortable red marks.

“With two multi-layer bamboo inserts included, Wink’s bamboo AIO is highly absorbent, making it ideal for a nap diaper or for errands.”

Alternatives

If you’re in the market for a natural fiber all-in-one diaper, there are a few others on the market (though not many) that you might want to compare against the Wink AIO before making a decision, they are:

Let’s take a closer look at how each compares to the Wink AIO.

Thirsties Natural One-Size All-in-One

FeatureThirstiesWink
Absorbent layersEleven layers of natural fibers including 3 layers of GOTS certified organic cotton in the body and 2 additional soaker pads with 8 layers of hemp/organic cottonSeven layers of organic bamboo

Price*$26.95 USD each$25.99 USD regular price, or $18.20 with the Beginners30 coupon.
(Coupon can be combined with their bulk discount of $2 off each diaper when you buy 6 or more and $3 off when you buy 12 or more, making them even cheaper!)

Both the Wink AiO and the Thirsties Natural AiO are great diapers, and neither will be a waste of your diaper budget. But when you compare the two head-to-head there are some clear differences that may impact which one is best for you.

The Thirsties Natural AiO offers you more layers of absorbency, keep in mind this in turn gives you a slightly bulkier fit, but when compared to other styles of diapers both AIO’s give a trim fit. The fit of the Thirsties may be a bit easier to get a good fit with f you have a very chunky baby as they don’t have double gussets; on the opposite end, if you have a baby with skinny legs the Wink double gussets will be perfect for you and help you get a good fit around the legs.

Thirsties offers you the choice of velcro or snaps, which the Wink does not, and offers a few more print selections than Wink. But Wink makes up for that lack of choice with their price, which is far less than the Thirsties, especially if you’re buying more than six at a time.

GroVia Organic All-in-One

FeatureGroVia.com available of: 3-6 diapers = 5% off7-11 diapers = 7% off12+ diapers = 10% off$25.99 USD regular price, or $18.20 with the Beginners30 coupon.
(Coupon can be combined with their bulk discount of $2 off each diaper when you buy 6 or more and $3 off when you buy 12 or more, making them even cheaper!)

It’s important to point out that the GroVia Organic All-in-One is not the GroVIA O.N.E diaper, which is a much more heavy-duty all-in-one that is great for nighttime (you can read about it more in my overnight cloth diaper post here).

The GroVia Organic all-in-one diaper has much less absorbency than the Wink AIO, but does come with the option of snapping in an additional insert (though, is this really an AIO if you have to add more?).

The other major difference between the GroVia and Wink Organic AIO’s is their wing style. The Wink AIO offers a traditional snap/wing closure, while the GroVia has stretchy wings that snap behind the front of the diaper. This may take some getting used to, but if you have a baby with chunky legs and a small tummy, the GroVia may be the perfect choice thanks to those stretchy wings and single leg gussets. On the opposite end, if you have a baby with a round tummy and spindly legs, the Wink will give you a better fit.

Price-wise, GroVia is more reasonably priced than the Thirsties, but still not as inexpensive as the Wink AIO even when all the possible bulk price discounts are factored in.

bumGenius Elemental

FeaturebumGeniusWink
Absorbent layers6 layers of super absorbent, certified organic cotton Seven layers of organic bamboo all together
Leg ElasticsSingle, rolled elasticsDouble gusset elastics
Back ElasticElastic all around the back to the wings, which are their signature stretchy closure tabsElastic at the back, about an inch from the edge

Price*$26.95 USD each, but there is a bulk discount on “packs” of them available on their website: 6 diapers = $4.50 off12 diapers = $18 off24 diapers = $72 off$25.99 USD regular price, or $18.20 with the Beginners30 coupon.
(Coupon can be combined with their bulk discount of $2 off each diaper when you buy 6 or more and $3 off when you buy 12 or more, making them even cheaper!)

Like the GroVia, the bumGenius Elemental, has much less absorbency than the Wink AIO, but does NOT come with the option of snapping in an additional insert. Also, like the GroVia the Elemental has stretchy wings, but they are not inverted like the GroVia, making them much less tricky to figure out.

Once again, if you have a baby with chunky legs and a small tummy, the Elemental may be the perfect choice thanks to those stretchy wings and single gussets. On the opposite end, if you have a baby with a round tummy and spindly legs, the Wink double gussets and standard waist closure will give you a better fit.

Price-wise, Wink AIO once again is far less expensive even when all the possible bulk price discounts are factored in.

Conclusion

Out of the options for natural and organic all-in-one diapers, Wink is definitely a frontrunner thanks to its unbeatable price, many layers of soft, organic bamboo, fantastic warranty and customer service, and trim fit.  Just keep in mind that it’s best suited to babies who need that snugger fit around the legs.
